Walter Whall Battiss, (1906-1982), is a world renowned South African contemporary artist who was inspired by ancient African rock art and published a book about the San and their art titled: “The Amazing Bushmen”. His prolific work included his “Fook Island” project. His works were also partly influenced by Pablo Picasso whom he befriended in 1949.
